Inviting Nature into Your Home Decor

As people who love beauty, we know the importance of creating a space that inspires us, and what better inspiration than the natural world around us? Here are a few ideas to help you intentionally bring nature and plants into your space.

PLAY WITH LIGHT & SHADOWS

Let’s expand the term “nature” to be everything in the natural world. One of the most transformational elements in design is LIGHT.

Playing with light and shadow is a fantastic way to bring the beauty of nature into your home. Rainbows and prisms are a magical way to create stunning displays of color that dance across your walls and floors. Try hanging a prism in your window or placing a crystal in a sunny spot to catch the light and create rainbows that will brighten up any room.

Consider adding light-filtering curtains or blinds that cast patterns and shadows across your walls and floors.

Create a subtle, mystical atmosphere with candlelight and burning incense that transports you to a place of peace and tranquility. I’m, of course, very partial to the Do It For The Process Studio Candle (it smells like a pine forest and a lavender field with hints of saffron and magical and heaven). The flickering and shadow-play of coiled incense in the air is magic.

OPEN THE DOORS AND WINDOWS

Let the fresh air and natural light flow in and fill your space with freshness. There’s something special about how obvious of a suggestion this may be to some. But where I live, in a pretty humid climate so it’s not just opening up to the weather— also quite literally inviting nature in.

I love having an en plein air workspace when I paint especially — the breeze helps to create a fresh environment while I create which keeps my heart and mind light and airy (wow, no pun intended). This simple step can instantly uplift your mood and give your space a breath of fresh air.

INCORPORATE FLORALS + PLANTS

Let's talk about greenery. Whether it's a curated vase of fresh blooms on the coffee table, hanging a trailing vine from a bookshelf, or a collection of dried flowers in an open basket, plants can infuse your space with a sense of organic charm and natural beauty. Not only do they look great by adding depth and texture to your space, but they can also improve your overall wellbeing by inviting life found in nature.

My favorite souvenirs from traveling or just going on a walk in my neighborhood is a small branch or dried flower. These pieces nearly always end up being placed somewhere thoughtfully and enjoyed thoroughly.

REFRESHING WITH SEASON-INSPIRED PRINTS

Nature has a way of inspiring us all year round. Hang prints that reflect the beauty of the season and bring a sense of natural wonder to your walls. This is a seamless, budget-conscious way to easily incorporate natural elements into your decor, and make a big impact in your space by just by swapping out your artwork. Plus, nature-inspired pieces can bring you back to your travels— to places you felt connected and inspired. And they bring landscapes and scenes that add life to your walls.

For me, it’s in the winterness & wild of the coast, like in this piece. It’s in the glorious lushness of hillsides, like in Place of Magic. In the earthy, sun-baked desert colors, seen in a gallery wall set. Playing in the shadows of watercolored, botanical vines. Each piece is an invitation to bring the beautiful, grounding world around you in.

So, there you have it! Just a few intentional ideas for inviting nature into your home decor. Remember, nature is the ultimate artist, and we can all learn a thing or two from her. Let's celebrate the beauty of the natural world and bring a little bit of magic into our everyday lives.
